DELUGE SYSTEMS

Deluge systems have open sprinklers. Hence all sprinklers connected to the water piping systems are open. These systems are used for special hazards where rapid fire spread is a concern, as they provide a simultaneous application of water over the entire hazard. This system uses deluge valve in the water supply connection. The valve will open to allow water to enter the piping system. The water flow is constant from all the sprinklers.

The purpose of a deluge system is to quickly wet down an entire hazardous area to prevent a fire from spreading. They are usually used in facilities that contain high flammable liquids, chemicals, and explosives. Rooms with high ceilings sometimes use deluge systems, as it is difficult to direct water over the burning area from such a distance
