FIRE SPRINKLERS
Fire sprinklers are by far the most efficient and effective fire devices available with a whole series of reports indicating a worldwide success rate of over 99%. Although smoke detectors are also valuable they can only provide a warning of fire and their success at preventing disaster is dependent on someone alerting the Fire Service. When a fire sprinkler activates, an audible alarm will sound thus not only warning of a fire but also acting immediately to extinguish the blaze, regardless of anyone’s presence.
Buildings that endure severe fire are often
damaged beyond repair and become uninhabitable.
Buildings protected by
fire sprinklers can often be back in use within hours and
the rest of the building is generally unaffected. Each sprinkler
is individually triggered by the intense heat of a
fire and only the sprinkler/s directly over the fire becomes
active. Sprinklers use considerably less water that the Fire
Brigade saving property from water damage. Figures suggest
sprinklers release less than 1% of water used by fire service
hoses.
